AMAT cai mais de 5% no after
Applied Materials Off 5%: FYQ3 Beats, Q4 View Light
Shares of chip equipment maker Applied Materials (AMAT) are down 51 cents, almost 5%, at $10.85 after the company this afternoon reported fiscal Q3 revenue and profit per share ahead of expectations, but forecast the current quarter’s results below consensus.
Revenue in the three months ended in July fell 2.4%, year over year, to $2.79 billion, yielding EPS of 35 cents. Analysts on average had been expecting $2.68 billion and 33 cents.
Orders in the company’s silicon systems business, for basic chip equipment, fell 28%, “primarily due to weaker demand in foundry,” the company reported. Net sales of silicon systems of $1.4 billion were down 4%.
CEO Mike Splinter remarked, “While the fundamental drivers of our markets remain strong, we are seeing softness in our business resulting from the uncertain economic environment and overcapacity in solar.”
The company’s business unit catering to solar energy technology providers, the energy and environmental solutions business unit, saw orders drop 48%, Applied said, “as customers digested record capital additions in recent quarters.”
For the current quarter, the company sees revenue falling quarter to quarter in a range of 15% to 30%, yielding EPS of 16 cents to 24 cents a share. Analysts on average were looking for revenue to fall just 4%, and for EPS of 30 cents a share.
