ODFW will extend non-selective ocean coho season
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fishery managers got the go ahead from the National Marine Fisheries Service to extend the 2011 non-selective ocean coho salmon season by four days. The change allows fishing all days from Sept. 1 through Sept. 10.
"We hope the extra days give anglers more opportunity to take advantage of this great fishery," said Steve Williams, ODFW Deputy Administrator for the Fish Division.
The non-selective coho salmon fishery occurs between Cape Falcon just north of Manzanita to Humbug Mountain near Port Orford.
Anglers can keep two salmon and are reminded to consult the 2011 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations for other regulations.
ODFW seeks local landowner representative for A&H

Individuals living in southwestern Oregon (Douglas, Coos, Jackson, Josephine and Curry counties) with an interest and experience in hunting and/or wildlife conservation are encouraged to apply.
Applications are available at www.dfw.state.or.us/AH/get_involved.asp. They are due by Sept. 15. For more information, or for application materials, contact Vince Oredson at Vince.J.Oredson @state.or.us or at 541-826-8774, ext. 232.
This is a volunteer position and duties include participation in up to four public meetings per year.
Remember safety on water this holiday weekend
Labor Day Weekend is one of the busiest boating weekends of the year.
The Oregon State Marine Board wants to remind boaters to stay safe and have fun.
• Know you're waterway.
• Know what rules apply to you and your water device.
• Wear your life jacket. Each boat must have a properly-fitting life jacket for person on board.
• Sit on the seat, not the swim platform, stern or sides of the boat. This is a carbon monoxide and safety hazard.
• Slow down and keep a sharp lookout. Know the boating regulations for your area of operation.
• Carry your boater education card.
• Carry your aquatic invasive species prevention permit.
• Don't drink and boat.
