Microsoft Should Buy Sirius XM Radio

Yesterday, Microsoft (MSFT) announced its intention to enter the business of online music streaming. There are certainly enough players in the arena today, some more dominant than others. It’s one thing to be first to market, another to be number 200 or 2000. The market is saturated with more than enough players to meet current and future demand. With royalty rates now written in stone and further litigation off the table, it makes sense that others will soon join the fray as well.
If Microsoft really wants to take advantage of the expected demand from the mobile market, they will be accomplishing nothing other than dilution of the current market, while creating a product that has nearly zero chance of substantially adding to its bottom line. While they’re at it, maybe they could throw a few google (GOOG) ads up on MSN to generate some extra revenue. What ever happened to innovation at Microsoft? I mean they cannot be “Sirius!”
In an exclusive interview with “The Telegraph”, Peter Bale, executive producer of MSN, explained that “Music is an important area for Microsoft. We are looking at launching a music streaming service imminently.” Mr. Bale goes on to state that Microsoft is “looking at how other similar businesses have structured their business models and trying to figure out what will work best for both consumer and Microsoft.”
Let’s break this down. The answer to what works best for the consumer and Microsoft is content. Exclusive content that cannot be found anywhere else. There is no point in anything else. A music jukebox service like Pandora can only go so far. Microsoft has the money. Only Sirius XM Radio (SIRI) has the content. The two companies already work together on other projects, such as the Ford (F) “SYNC” system.
Sirius XM Radio is always looking for potential suitors, and has gone so far as to offer an olive branch to Charles Ergen of DISH Network just a few months ago. If Microsoft is serious about being the best, it should consider spending some of its hoarded cash to buy the best.

Sirius XM Ended the quarter with 18,559,434 subscribers. Assuming an all-in monthly churn of 3% (which might actually be low), you end up losing 1,670,349 subscribers. Add on the 700,942 from above, and you reach a total of 17,590,027.
That represents a net LOSS of just under 1 million subscribers. And that does not include retail.

Talvez alguem nos possa elucidar como funciona esta questão do short selling nos states: há prazos para recomprarem as acções ou não têm que o fazer?, são acções emprestadas, puts, puts turbo?
Uma coisa será certa, esta acção precisava de um bom degrau para cima, para aí sim arrumar definitivamente com os shorts. Fala-se também na questão do Obama querer acabar com o chamado up tick rule, o que iria dificultar o short selling. Concluiram que sendo uma acçºao muito popular nos states , sendo ao mesmo tempo das mais shortadas estar-se-ia a subtrair riqueza ao povo americano. parece que esta iniciativa está para ser apresentada em termos de proposta legislativa ao congresso.

Agora disseste tudo. É por isso que eu gosto de ter posições neste momento nela. Boas noticias que estão a suster e bem a pressão vendedora. O titulo está tecnicamente num momento de grande confiança e muito Bullish. Está iminente um SHORT SQUEEZE até aos 0.70 ou mais. Em breve eles vão divulgar os resultados da aplicação do Iphone, a ser verdade o que está acontecer de cerca de 2.5 milhões de downloads desde o lançamento na semana passada, a coisa vai prometer. Estar curto neste momento na SIRI é um perfeito suicidio.
