AP) - General Motors Corp. on Monday announced further production cuts as it tries to deal with a rapid shift in consumer demand from pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles to cars and crossover vehicles. The company also is increasing production at some car and crossover factories. Cuts are in addition to the normal two-week shutdown for model year changeovers in July:

Janesville, Wis. (makes Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe and GMC Yukon and Denali SUVs)

_ To be idled the weeks of July 14 and 21, and shut down another 10 weeks through the end of the year.

_ Slated to close by 2010.

Oshawa, Ontario, truck factory (makes Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups)

_ Will be closed for a week after the normal two-week July shutdown. Also will close seven more weeks between July and the end of the year.

_ Slated to close in 2009.

Arlington, Texas, SUV factory (makes Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade)

_ Will be shut down the weeks of July 14 and 21, plus three weeks before the end of the year.

Fort Wayne, Ind. (makes the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra)

_ Originally was to operate during the second week of the July shutdown, but now it will be closed that week as well. Also will see two additional down weeks through the end of the year.

Silao, Mexico full-size pickup plant (makes Silverado and Sierra)

_ Will be idled the week of July 14, plus two more weeks through the end of the year.

Shreveport, La., midsize truck plant (makes the GMC Canyon, Chevrolet Colorado, Hummer H3, and truck for Isuzu)

_ Will close the week of July 14.

Moraine, Ohio (makes Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Ranier, Isuzu Ascender, Saab 9-7x midsize SUVs)

_ Will lose a shift the week of July 14 as it adjusts to the large number of workers who took early retirement and buyout packages.

_ Slated for closure by 2010.

Other pickup and SUV plants will see line speed and overtime reductions.

GM also will add Saturday production at its Kansas City, Kan., and Delta Township, Mich., factories. The Kansas City plant makes the hot-selling Chevrolet Malibu and Saturn Aura, and Delta Township makes the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook crossover vehicles. The company already has plans to add a third shift in Lordstown, Ohio, and Orion Township, Mich., to increase car production. Assembly line speed will be increased at Lordstown and additional overtime will be authorized for Kansas City.
