Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories, Inc., an Alcatel-Lucent company (Euronext Paris: ALU) (NYSE: ALU), was selected as the leader in customer service for Frost & Sullivan's most prestigious award, the 2008 North American Contact Center Applications Company of the Year Award. This award was presented to Genesys today during a press conference at Alcatel-Lucent's Enterprise Forum in Paris.
In selecting Genesys as the award recipient, analysts at Frost quantified several market factors including the number of new customers, new segments and commitment to business expansion coupled with market growth.
In 2007, Genesys played a major role in elevating the business conversation around customer service software, and Genesys is now a name that crops up in almost every discussion with vendors and practitioners. The Genesys suite cuts across a variety of markets, including in the inbound contact routing, IVR, speech technologies and standalone CTI spaces, and -- according to the report -- the company is a clear leader in the transition of contact centers towards IP-based technologies. Additionally, the growing strength of Genesys in the hosted and managed services markets, along with its deep domain expertise in key vertical markets such as financial services, healthcare and telecommunications, places the company in a model position for continued success and making it the ideal choice for the Company of the Year Award.
"This award serves as recognition of Genesys' extremely strong thought leadership role in continuously improving the customer experience," said Ashwin Iyer, global program manager for contact center & CRM, Frost & Sullivan. "Genesys created an effective marketing message around their Dynamic Contact Center model to help explain this new paradigm shift to enterprises. The Dynamic Contact Center aims to assist enterprises in taking an active role in responding to the ever-changing dynamics of customer service. It does so by dynamically aligning contact center resources and capabilities with customer needs, all within the scope of existing overall business objectives."
"We're pleased that Frost recognized Genesys with their Company of the Year Award as its recognition of our progress in 2007, including sustained double digit revenue growth, market expertise and the acquisition of key new technologies for business performance management to expand our portfolio of reporting and analytic software. This award also recognizes our strong thought leadership role in continuously improving the customer experience in markets in which customer experience is the primary competitive differentiator for enterprises," said Paul Segre, Genesys CEO. "Going forward, Genesys' augmented capabilities in analytics and reporting for customer interaction organizations will ensure Genesys will be a competitive threat in all of the major segments of the contact center market."

Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung Debut Industry's First Solution for Seamless WiMAX-GSM/EDGE Dual-Mode Services
Wednesday February 13, 4:50 am ET
Samsung Multimode Handheld Device, Together With Network Features From Alcatel-Lucent, Enable Service Continuity Across Both WiMAX and GSM/EDGE Infrastructures
MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS, BARCELONA, February 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and Samsung unveiled at Mobile World Congress an optimized device-plus-infrastructure solution that will enable end-users to have seamless access to their voice and data services when switching between GSM/EDGE and WiMAX networks. On the exhibition show floor the two are showcasing live demonstrations of an optimized end-to-end solution for dual-mode, which tightly integrates the dual-mode PDA and network equipment from Alcatel-Lucent.
This first-of-its-kind solution will enable operators to blend GSM/EDGE and WiMAX networks and thus offer their mobile subscribers wireless data and voice service that span an entire nation. Operators will be able to gradually roll out wireless broadband services using the most advanced WiMAX standard, Rev-e (802.16e-2005), because when their subscribers move out of WiMAX range the existing GSM/EDGE network will immediately pick up the connection without disruption in the subscriber's session or call. This includes international roaming as well as movement from WiMAX-rich urban/suburban settings into rural areas - with the standardized end-to-end solution supporting seamless connections for both voice and data.
As the most widely deployed mobile network technology worldwide with 2.8 billion subscribers, GSM/EDGE is a solid base for deploying next-generation wireless networks. Moreover, because significant numbers of operators in high-growth markets have not yet begun the transition to 3G, this type of solution opens to door, where appropriate, to a potential direct move from GSM/EDGE to 4G, via the WiMAX path.
"The arrival of dual mode in the market place is highly anticipated and represents a significant step for the development of the WiMAX market," Michael Thelander, CEO Signals Research Group. " It has the potential to change the market trajectory, and the combination of Samsung's consumer device technology and brand with Alcatel-Lucent's WiMAX networks expertise will add confidence to the first steps in this direction."
Samsung was already a partner in Alcatel-Lucent's Open CPE Program, established to stimulate the ecosystem to ensure that WiMAX operators and their subscribers have access to the widest possible variety of terminal devices at affordable prices.
'Thanks to Samsung's new WiMAX & GSM/EDGE dual-mode device, which works seamlessly with Alcatel-Lucent infrastructure, wireless operators will be able to offer truly ubiquitous mobile data experience even before WiMAX is fully deployed nationwide. Instead of having to invest upfront in a massive rollout, wireless operators will be able to offer superior service in the dense urban environments covered by initial WiMAX deployments, while relying on GSM/EDGE nationwide availability from day one and gradually extend WiMAX coverage nationwide," said Karim El Naggar, Alcatel-Lucent's WiMAX Vice President. "The hybrid solution enables them to smoothly transition to next-generation mobile broadband and pursue new business opportunities cost-effectively, leveraging their existing offer."
Dr. W.P. Hong, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics, says: "We welcome Alcatel-Lucent in joining us and helping Samsung expand its Mobile WiMAX expertise. As _a world leader in Mobile WiMAX - the fastest and most efficient wireless broadband technology - Samsung is committed to developing Mobile WiMAX technologies and services to benefit Internet users around the world. Along with Alcatel Lucent and our other partners we will continue to push the boundaries of what Mobile WiMAX can deliver."
Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung are collaborating on the solution's specifications, testing and deployment to optimize network and device architectures based on a unified protocol. This will ensure security and mobility-management control for operator customers. As part of the effort, they will contribute to standardization, working with organizations such as the WiMAX Forum® and 3GPP.
With more than 70 pilots and deployments across the world and 22 commercial contracts signed since the beginning of 2007, Alcatel-Lucent is a leader in the worldwide WiMAX Rev-e market. The group also counts more than 180 GSM/EDGE customers in over 90 countries, making it a leading provider of mobile communications solutions.

TeliaSonera Invites Alcatel-Lucent to Trial its Base Station Router Femto In-Building Mobile Access Solution in Denmark
Wednesday February 13, 5:08 am ET
MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS - BARCELONA, February 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it has been invited by TeliaSonera, the leading telecommunication company in the Nordic and Baltic region, to participate in a trial of its Base Station Router (BSR) Femto in-building wireless access solution in Denmark. TeliaSonera's planned trial activities in Denmark are expected to start this spring.
The goal of the trial is to demonstrate the functional viability of the solution and will encompass testing of voice and high-speed packet access (HSPA)-based wireless broadband data services in home and office environments. The trial also will involve integration of Femto in TeliaSonera's network.
The Femto Base Station Router is an innovative solution that packs third-generation (3G) W-CDMA/HSPA radio access and core network elements into one compact, easy-to-deploy unit. The solution benefits operators by enabling them to reduce their network costs and it benefits users by enabling them to access broadband wireless services with a high-speed connection and exceptional coverage in homes and small offices.
"Alcatel-Lucent's BSR-Femto offers an ideal way for service providers - such as TeliaSonera - to provide broadband wireless services in a home or a small office more efficiently than they could with a traditional cellular network," said Lars Boilesen, head Alcatel-Lucent's activities in the Nordic and Baltic countries.
At the heart of the BSR-Femto is Alcatel-Lucent's revolutionary "flat IP" architecture and auto-configuration approach. The flat IP architecture effectively reduces the number of network elements that network traffic has to travel through, eliminating bottlenecks in the network and thereby increasing quality and decreasing latency. With the auto-configuration feature, the BSR-Femtos also are able to register themselves automatically on the network, a feature that enables operators to deploy and more easily manage large numbers of smaller, stand-alone base stations without the deployment costs normally associated with network expansions.
As a global leader in the development and deployment of third-generation (3G) networks, Alcatel-Lucent has deployed commercial 3G (UMTS/HSPA and CDMA2000) systems for more than 70 operators worldwide. Alcatel-Lucent also is the uncontested market leader in broadband access with more than 150 million DSL lines shipped to-date. More than 180 customers have adopted the ISAM product family globally - a figure that includes over 80% of the top 20 DSL operators in the world.

MENAFN) The Chief Executive Officer at Telecom Egypt (TE), the incumbent telecom operator in Egypt, said that the company has signed a $125 million contract with Alcatel-Lucent to deploy a new submarine cable network linking Sidi Kerir in Egypt to Marseille in France, Khaleej Times reported.
The project, dubbed TE North, will enable Telecom Egypt to expand international connectivity, providing diversity from existing cable routes. Additionally, the TE North submarine cable system will help Telecom Egypt enhance its network capacity to operate as a wholesale carrier to other operators and expand its service offering to businesses and consumers.
Spanning 3,100 kilometers, TE North will deliver an ultimate capacity of 128 x 10Gbit/s on eight fiber pairs, which makes it one of the largest cable systems in the region. As a result, Telecom Egypt will be able to meet the growing demand for broadband services of its business and residential users at more affordable costs.
Moreover, it will further establish Egypt's role as international communication hub between Europe and Asia/Africa, and it will also reinforce the city of Marseille as a communications hub with open access facilities.
