VENDER!

"Microsoft Will Just Get Cheaper"

"Something amazing happened Wednesday. Steve Ballmer, the CEO of Microsoft (MSFT:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer's Take), came to New York to tell the story of what has now become a much-maligned company. On the same day that he spoke, Google (GOOG:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer's Take) announced that it would not be competing for Microsoft's browser business. If you were a trader trying to game this whole day, you would have gone long both Microsoft calls and common stock.

And you would have been dead wrong. On an up day for the markets, on an up day for the Nazz, Microsoft got hammered. Yep, they just took the thing apart, dropping it back to $22 and change.

Some of that is because speculators thought that perhaps Ballmer would offer another special dividend, give some sort of financial enhancement to shareholders.

But it didn't matter. Because Ballmer had nothing new to say. He's running an unexciting company that overpromised and underdelivered on its most important product, and that's all she wrote.

I own Microsoft for Action Alerts PLUS and it has been one of my biggest disappointments. I was able to sell some at the price I bought it, but then was restricted from trading it because I talked about it on air, and then I was stuck. Lately I had been thinking that being stuck might not be so bad at $23, that the stock might have found its sea legs.

It hasn't.

So, the stock goes from being unloved to being loathed on the very day when it should be soaring.

At this point we have many people talking about how Microsoft has become so cheap it has to be owned. OK, how about this? I am someone who owns it and wishes he didn't because I think it will become even cheaper!

Somehow, I think that, based on how the stock's trading, that's a better analysis. "
