CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- A measure of factory activity in and around Chicago improved more than expected this month.
The Chicago purchasing managers index stood at 62.9% vs. 57.9% in September, beating the average of a MarketWatch survey for 60.5%.
The employment index rebounded to 51.3% after slipping to 48.4% in September.
Prices paid edged up to 79.6% from 76.3%.
New orders climbed to 72.6% from 63.4%.
