Delta aims to cut up to 9,000 jobs

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines Inc. <DAL.N> said on Thursday that it plans to eliminate up to 9,000 jobs, or 17 percent of its work force, by the end of 2007 as part of a plan to save $3 billion as it seeks to revive itself in bankruptcy. Delta also said it hopes to save $930 million by cutting employment costs and overhead and boosting productivity, with pilots to absorb $325 million of the cuts and $605 million from the rest of its work force.
