Para não variar o mercado das memórias Flash apesar de ter mostrado um grande crescimento não têm vindo a ser bom para as contas em geral.

O bom é que os Athlon64 continuam com o crescimento nas vendas.

AMD Turns in 4th-Quarter Net Loss on Debt-Related Charges, Microprocessor Sales Grew 29 Percent

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) swung to a fourth- quarter net loss on debt-related charges, and the company was hurt by weak flash memory chip sales despite record microprocessor results.

Going forward, AMD expects processor sales to be "flat to down slightly" from the fourth quarter in the typically seasonally down first quarter. The company expects flash-memory sales to fall sequentially in the first quarter "due to continued imbalance in supply and demand, continued pressure" on average selling prices and seasonal factors.

The semiconductor maker late Tuesday reported a net loss of $30 million, or eight cents a share, compared with year-earlier net income of $43.2 million, or 12 cents a share. The latest quarter's results include charges of $49 million, or 13 cents a share, mainly related to debt conversion and retirement.

Net sales rose 4.8% to $1.26 billion from $1.21 billion.

Before AMD scaled back fourth-quarter expectations on Jan. 10, analysts, on average, were calling for earnings of 19 cents a share on sales of $1.35 billion, according to Thomson First Call.

Advanced Micro noted Tuesday that microprocessor sales set a record during the quarter -- reaching $730 million -- up 26% from a year earlier.

However, memory sales were weaker than expected, as AMD warned on Jan. 10. Chief Financial Officer Robert J. Rivet on Tuesday blamed the 11% drop to $504 million on "an aggressive pricing environment, significantly lower sales in Japan and a delay in qualifying a new product in the wireless segment."

For all of 2004, AMD posted net income of $91.2 million, or 25 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier net loss of $274.5 million, or 79 cents a share. Net sales jumped 42% to $5 billion from $3.52 billion amid 29% growth in the company's microprocessor business and 65% growth at the flash-memory segment.
