JP Morgan cuts Infineon price target to $8 (IFX, DE:623101)

LONDON (CBS.MW) -- JP Morgan cut its 12 month price target for Infineon (IFX) (DE:623100) shares to $8 from $10 after the German chip company issued a first-quarter revenue warning overnight. The broker said its fears for the stock had been realized, pointing out that it cut estimates for the company last week. Infineon shares were last up 0.4 percent in flat German trade after initially falling 0.1 percent.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Infineon Technologies AG warned Wednesday afternoon that results for its first fiscal quarter will come in below Wall Street's expectations.

After the close of U.S. markets, the German chipmaker (IFX: news, chart, profile) (DE:623100: news, chart, profile) said revenue for the quarter will be approximately 1.82 billion euros ($2.39 billion). Analysts were expecting the company to report revenue of 1.85 billion euros, according to Thomson First Call.

Earnings before interest and taxes are expected to be around 211 million euros. This includes non-recurring license income of 118 million euros in connection with the previously announced settlement of a licensing dispute with ProMOS.

The company said all its segments were negatively impacted by the weakened U.S. dollar.

On Tuesday, the company announced the termination of the sale of its fiber-optics unit to Finisar (FNSR: news, chart, profile). The company instead plans to restructure the unit and said "significant job cuts could be expected." See full story.

In the statement Wednesday, Infineon said it anticipates no financial impact from the termination and related restructuring on the first quarter.

The company said revenue in its automotive and industrial unit is expected to come in around 452 million euros with earnings before taxes of approximately 50 million euros. The company said lower revenues, combined with an active reduction in inventory levels "resulted in a decline of fab utilization and EBIT margin."

Infineon's wireline communications unit is expected to show revenue of approximately 106 million euros and a loss of 29 million euros - before taxes. Its secure mobile solutions unit is expected to show revenues of about 439 million euros with earnings before taxes of 2 million euros.

Infineon plans to report full results for the quarter on Jan. 24.

Eu percebi Dwer.

A minha intenção foi só a de alertar para a possibilidade de a IFX poder ir bastante abaixo do target do teu gráfico. Quando falamos em targets, estamos a dizer que determinados valores deverão ser atingidos com elevada probabilidade.

Já no caso dos suportes, a interpretação é a de que se tratam de zonas de forte resistência à continuação das quedas.

Calhando, não me expliquei bem; Quando digo fechar curtos, não quero dizer entrar longo. Antes pelo contrário. Quero dizer, sair de posições curtas. Isto para quem está curto. Se o visitante estiver longo (como me parece que está...), não sei o que dizer. Como dizes e bem, o próximo suporte está muito abaixo. De qq forma havia ali um suporte pouco importante de curto prazo que foi quebrado hoje. Pessoalmente nunca entraria longo. Mas a questão não me parece que seja essa. Penso que é - o que fazer aos longos. Eu, se estivesse longo (por qq razão absurda), tinha fechado.
Agora o que se passa é o seguinte: os semicondutores levaram uma grande paulada por causa da AMD; mas os resultados da INTEL foram razoáveis. O SOX hoje já esteve negativo e neste momento está positivo ( a fazer uma inside bar). Pode ser que haja uma oportunidade de largar os longos um pouco mais acima.
Mas volto a dizer: eu largava-os já. A tê-los só poderia ter sido um erro ou distração. E assim corta-se logo o mal pela raiz.

Pessoalmente, neste momento não arriscaria uma posição longa na IFX

Atenção que um target não é o mesmo que um suporte e, no caso da IFX, os suportes encontram-se bem abaixo do target indicado no gráfico.

Depois de quebrar em baixa a cunha ascendente, está a 12 pontos de atingir o target desta figura: 7.36.
Entretanto quebrou hoje um suporte de curto prazo entre 7.59 e 7.62.

Para quem entrou curto estaria na hora de começar a fechar contratos.

Para quem entrou longo, a tentar apanhar um fundo, não sei o que diga...
