Conta Médicos do Mundo - Emergência na Ásia



A Organização Não Governamental para o Desenvolvimento "Médicos no Mundo" abriu uma Conta para recolha de fundos a utilizar no apoio às vitimas do maremoto da Ásia. Esta organização, que integra a rede internacional Médicos no Mundo, está presente em Portugal desde 1999, participando em diversos projectos de ajuda humanitária a nível nacional e internacional.

Todos os que quiserem participar nesta iniciativa deverão entregar o seu contributo em qualquer Balcão BPI, através do BPI Net (www.bpinet.pt) ou do BPI Directo (808 200 500) para a conta "Médicos do Mundo - Emergência na Ásia", com o número 0-9446000-000-001.

As contribuições poderão também ser entregues por transferência para o NIB 0010 0000 94460000001 09.

Os donativos efectuados são dedutíveis à colecta de IRS/IRC, sendo necessário para o efeito que os Clientes possuam um comprovativo do donativo efectuado. Para tal, devem:
- ficar com o talão de depósito ou comprovativo da transferência;
- enviar uma fotocópia deste talão/ comprovativo, juntamente com o Nome, Morada e Nº Contribuinte, para:

Penso que todos sabem quem é "ele".

Eu acrescento que "ele", dever ter ido passar férias de Natal para outro planeta, tal como fez à um ano atrás.

Dói muito ver o sofrimento dos milhões de pessoas que sofreram perdas de familiares, amigos.

Soneva Fushi Resort experienced limited damage during the recent tidal event. There are no reported injuries at the resort and evacuation has not been necessary. Until seaplane transfers resume all guests will be transferred by speedboat. The resort remains fully operational and guests with confirmed resrvations are welcomed. Air schedules at Male International Airport have been disrupted, so please contact your Travel Agent or Airline for schedule updates.

Soneva Gili Resort experienced some damage during the recent tidal event. There have been no reported injuries at the resort, however guests have been evacuated to the capital - Male, for safety. Re-opening of the resort will be advised here, as soon as damage has been fully evaluated. Air departures are subject to the operation of the Male International Airport. Please contact your Travel Agent for further information, and Airlines concerned for schedule updates.

Nem quero pensar que já conhecemos uma tragédia semelhante há quase 250 anos !!

• Male’ International Airport is expected to be fully operational on 27 Dec 2004 0600hrs local time.

• Two tourists have been reported dead (one male and one female both from United Kingdom).

• One male tourist from United Kingdom reported still missing.

• There are over 17,000 tourists in the Maldives.

• All the resort islands in the Maldives have been contacted by the Ministry of Tourism and there are no reports of further major causalities. However many resorts have reported damages to their infrastructure.

• The tourists in some of the worst effected resorts are being shifted to other less damaged resorts and capital Male’.

• Most of the resort islands are back in operation.

Impressionante a extensão dos efeitos.... imagino o susto das pessoas... é um verdadeiro choque pensar que uma zona tão grande foi afectada de modo tão extremo. Estou totalmente chocada. Certamente os meus pensamentos estão com as pessoas daquela zona do mundo...

BIGGEST QUAKE IN 40 YEARS
The earthquake was the world's biggest since 1964, said Julie Martinez, geophysicist at the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colorado. "It is multiple earthquakes along the same faultline."

It was the fifth-largest earthquake since 1900, she said.

"These big earthquakes, when they occur in shallow water, ... basically slosh the ocean floor ... and it's as if you're rocking water in the bathtub and that wave can travel basically throughout the ocean," USGS geophysicist Bruce Presgrave told the BBC.

In Sri Lanka, thousands fled the worst tsunami in living memory, scrambling to higher ground for fear of another wave.

"The army and the navy have sent rescue teams; we have deployed over four choppers and half the navy's eastern fleet to look for survivors," said military spokesman Brigadier Daya Ratnayake.

The worst-hit area appeared to be the tourist region of the south and east where beach hotels were inundated or swept away.

"Our naval base in Trincomalee is underwater and right now we are trying to manage the situation there while rescuing people," said navy spokesman Jayantha Perera.

In the low-lying Maldives, President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was to declare a national disaster in the archipelago whose coral atolls are a magnet for tourists from around the world, said chief government spokesman Ahmed Shaheed.

"The damage is considerable," Shaheed said. "The island is only about three feet (one meter) above sea level and a wave of water four feet high swept over us."

The international airport was unusable, he said.

"It is a very bad situation. It is terrible," Shaheed said.

Quake, Tsunami Hit South Asia; 3,100 Feared Dead

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (Reuters) - The world's fifth-largest quake in a century hit southern Asia on Sunday, unleashing a tsunami that crashed into Sri Lanka and India, drowning thousands and swamping tourist isles in Thailand and the Maldives.

A wall of water up to 30 feet high triggered by the 8.9 magnitude earthquake swept into Indonesia, over the coast of Sri Lanka and India and across southern Thai tourist islands, leaving up to 3,100 feared dead in seaside towns and villages.

Two-thirds of the Maldives capital, Male, was flooded and officials voiced anxiety for the fate of dozens of low-lying, palm-ringed coral atolls crowded with international tourists for the Christmas holiday season.

Sri Lanka, where officials put the death toll at 1,500, appealed for emergency international assistance, President Chandrika Kumaratunga's office said. One million people, or 5 percent of the population, were affected, officials said.

"The president has declared a state of national disaster due to the seriousness of the situation," her office said.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh alerted the navy after 1,000 were reported dead and offered urgent help to Sri Lanka.

The earthquake of magnitude 8.9 as measured by the U.S. Geological Survey first struck at 7:59 a.m. off the coast of the northern Indonesian island of Sumatra and swung north with multiple tremors into the Andaman islands.

More than 100 Western and Asian tourists on diving holidays were missing on islands off southern Thailand, about 70 of them in the famed Emeral Cave, a tourist official said.

The government sent helicopters to Koh Phi Phi, another island popular with tourists, and other smaller islands in the Andaman Sea to assess the damage in the peak holiday season.

It ordered the evacuation of stricken areas, which included beaches on the popular resort islands of Phuket and Krabi.

"Nothing like this has ever happened in our country before," said Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Continued ...
