London, December 2, 2004 — The full list of the 500 fastest-growing technology companies in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) was announced today during the 2004 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA awards luncheon for chief executives at the Royal Academy of Arts, London. At the event, Deloitte also released its 2004 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA CEO Survey, a comprehensive analysis of the business trends and data from winning companies and a summary of the key concerns and expectations of sector CEOs.
Part of the Deloitte Technology Fast 500, the regional programme covers public and private technology companies from 21 countries in EMEA, and is the most objective industry-ranking standard to focus on the technology sector. The Awards are researched and sponsored by the Deloitte Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) Industry Group.
The number one ranked company, with an average five-year revenue growth of 96,512 percent, is lastminute.com, an independent travel and leisure Web-based business from the UK. Lastminute.com owns and operates several online brands, including holidayautos.com, travelprice.com, degriftour.com, travelselect.com, travel4less.co.uk, eXhilaration.co.uk, medhotels.com, first-option.co.uk, gemstonetravel.com and lastminute.de.
"The businesses that reached our ranking have exceeded all previous years in growth rates, and it is particularly satisfying to see the UK and Ireland and the Internet back in centre stage," said Karel Bakkes, Deloitte's partner in charge of Technology Fast 500 EMEA. "In addition we have seen some exceptional performers this year, with our number one firm lastminute.com approaching a staggering 6 figure five-year revenue growth rate."

Other trends include:
Software firms continue to dominate the ranking (42 percent) and the representation of different sectors is fairly stable compared to last year.
Internet businesses only account for 12 percent of ranked companies, but are performing well, with 20 Internet companies in the top 100, of which three are in the top 10 and one is the clear winner.

Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA CEO Survey overview
In addition to compiling the Technology Fast 500 EMEA ranking, Deloitte today published a survey of the Technology Fast 500 CEOs in EMEA.
Some of the key trends are:
Confidence in sustained growth is higher than in any previous survey, with 68 percent of businesses either very confident or extremely confident of sustaining growth rates over the next year.
This year high quality employees are the number one most important success factor for over 30 percent of businesses (last year "right timing in the marketplace" came top).
The Internet is truly open for business: nearly 4 out of 10 companies handle the majority of their business transactions online, and even more use the Internet not just for communication but for sales and distribution, networking of employees and customer support/CRM.
"This year's report shows a more mature, more confident technology sector, with systems and strategies in place and the focus clearly on long-term growth — in particular through staff — as opposed to external threats," said Igal Brightman, global managing partner of Deloitte's Global Technology, Media & Telecommunications industry group. "While the 500 firms in our ranking are quite exceptional performers, they are representative of the growing sectors and where they lead others will follow."
