Nokia _ estou curto (duplo topo)
Re: Nokia _ estou curto (duplo topo)

Nokia and O2 continue their close collaboration in 2G and 3G mobility services
October 18, 2004
Following the replacement of O2's previous supplier of GSM base station network, Nokia has become the sole supplier for O2's 2G base station infrastructure in the UK. This has been made possible through the close collaboration of both organisations and integration of project teams resulting in the rapid change out of over 2000 base stations. Not only has this been achieved in challenging time scales but also has enabled O2 to significantly improve network quality to the extent that it has independently been recognised as having the best ever UK mobile call success rate, beating all figures previously published by Oftel.
As the majority WCDMA RAN supplier to the mmO2 group, Nokia is committed to supporting high quality end user experience for O2's 3G Customers, specifically within the M25 London motorway ring area. Part of this project is a tuning and optimisation programme that has been employed to enhance interoperation between 2G and 3G services across the Nokia supplied infrastructure.
"We are pleased to be building out the system that will bring high-speed 3G services to our Irish, German and UK customers and we chose Nokia's 3G system thanks to its good performance and the solidity of its system roadmap," says Dave Williams, Chief Technology Officer, O2.
"We are determined to ensure our 3G network provides the best possible operation in terms of reliability and coverage, especially in urban areas. We know that O2 customers will expect a lot from our 3G offering and we plan to satisfy that expectation," he adds.
"We are happy to be working with O2 in bringing 3G to some of the world's premier markets for advanced mobile multimedia services," says Peter Kühne, Vice President, Networks, Nokia.
"The roll-out of Nokia's system in all three of these countries is a clear endorsement for the quality of our network solution. And we are looking forward to playing a continuing role beyond these initial roll-outs," he adds.
O2 and Nokia have also successfully completed a Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC) trial using commercially available technology and terminals. O2 is now evaluating its approach to this potential new service.
Nokia has been the major GSM supplier to O2 networks since 1990.
About mmO2
mmO2 has 100% ownership of mobile network operators in three countries - the UK, Germany and Ireland - as well as a leading mobile Internet portal business. All of these businesses are branded as O2. Additionally, the company is a founding member of Starmap Mobile Alliance, has operations on the Isle of Man (Manx Telecom) and owns O2 Airwave - an advanced, digital emergency communications service.
mmO2 was the first company in the world to launch and rollout a commercial GPRS (or 2.5G) network and has third generation mobile telephony ("3G") licences in the UK, Ireland and Germany.
mmO2 has more than 21 million customers and some 13,000 employees. It reported revenues for the year ended 31 March 2004 of £5.646 billion. Data represented more than 21% of total service revenues in the quarter ending 30 June 2004.
Chunghwa launches Nokia's push to talk network solution in Taiwan
October 18, 2004
Espoo, Finland - Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd. has launched Taiwan's first push to talk service, using Nokia's industry-leading Push to talk over Cellular (PoC) solution, marking a major step in Chunghwa's drive to bring its customers next-generation mobile service. Nokia now has commercial PoC network contracts with 18 GSM operators, and is trialing with well over 30 operators worldwide.
Under the agreement, Nokia is providing a complete PoC solution, including system installation and integration. Nokia's PoC solution is in line with the Industry Consortium Pre-standards specification and can be upgraded to the OMA PoC standards, which are expected to be ratified next year.
"Chunghwa has a close partnership with Nokia in GPRS and 3G," said Shaio-Tung Chang, President, Mobile Business Group, Chunghwa Telecom. "With the launch of PoC, our cooperation now extends to mobile services and applications. We are happy to be continuing our work with Nokia to broaden our multimedia service offering."
"Chunghwa Telecom is one of Nokia's leading customers in adopting new technologies," said Simon Beresford-Wylie, Senior Vice President, Networks, Nokia. "Push to talk service is an important milestone in the multimedia arena, and is widely considered to be the lead application using the IP Multimedia Subsystem. We see great promise also in our on-going cooperation with Chunghwa in the area of SIP/IMS technology, and look forward to wider scale pilots of IMS applications in the future."
IMS is the network architecture platform for advanced IP-multimedia services, such as real time video sharing, content sharing, push to talk, and various interactive applications including gaming. IMS also paves way for the introduction of Voice over IP (VoIP), a key part of the convergence of fixed and mobile domains. It provides the connectivity that enables SIP-capable terminals and devices to establish IP sessions between each other, over any IP connection, such as GPRS, WCDMA 3G, broadband home connections or WLAN hotspots.
Nokia is the world leader in mobile communications, driving the growth and sustainability of the broader mobility industry. Nokia is dedicated to enhancing people's lives and productivity by providing easy-to-use and innovative products like mobile phones, and solutions for imaging, games, media, mobile network operators and businesses. Nokia is a broadly held company with listings on five major exchanges.
