Dutch Gvt Likely To Keep Stake In TNT-Fortis

Wednesday, November 09, 2005 11:54:18 AM ET
Dow Jones Newswires

1638 GMT [Dow Jones]--Dutch state is likely to hold on to TNT (00906.AE) postal activities and possibly oppose takeover of TNT by a venture capitalist, says Maarten Bakker of Fortis. "I don't see the Dutch State being enthusiastic about a venture capitalist taking a stake in the post activities," he says. "The State wants to guarantee the interests of the postal market," analyst adds. But sees possible scenario in which state can hold its stake in postal activities and that TNT's express and logistics units are sold to third party, such as United Parcel Service (UPS). Has buy rating, EUR26 target. TNT has no comment.

A TNT Takeover Bid Is Realistic - Rabo

Thursday, November 10, 2005 5:08:43 AM ET
Dow Jones Newswires

0952 GMT [Dow Jones] A takeover bid for TNT (00906.AE) is a realistic scenario, says Rabo Securities. Cites a lagging operating performance due to the logistics unit, TNT's valuation is quite low, and there's not much leverage on the balance sheet. On the other hand, the UK tax probe poses a major risk for a potential buyer. Says TNT shares rose 11% on Wednesday as reports a German buyer is preparing a bid. Rates at hold, target EUR20.

TNT's Low Valuation Attracts Buyers

Thursday, November 10, 2005 6:08:47 AM ET
Dow Jones Newswires

1046 GMT [Dow Jones] TNT's (00906.AE) low valuation attracts interest but potential buyers would have to pay a premium for control, with a takeover range of EUR26-EUR30, says Merrill Lynch, following up on the news of a German consortium that is preparing a takeover bid. A potential takeover scenario may drive the shares higher, adds Merrill which has a neutral rating.
