THE SPARK: The Edison, N.J.-based company's inclusion in the index was effective Friday when Russell carried out its yearly reconstitution of its indexes.
THE BACKGROUND: Annual reconstitution of Russell's U.S. indexes captures the 4,000 largest U.S. stocks as of the end of May, ranking them by total market capitalization to create the Russell 3000 Index and the Russell Microcap Index. Membership in the Microcap Index remains in effect for one year.
Stocks often rise after they are added to major indexes as they are bought by managers of investment funds that mirror the indexes.
