"Out of Ammo"

"This market wants to rally, but it doesn't know how. It doesn't know what to do. Usually, rallies start because the shorts want to take profits. But it doesn't seem like many are short. It seems like everyone is long. Or, we can rally when the market bottoms and gets to prices that intrigue. I have to believe that nothing is intriguing around these levels.

Or, we bottom when the big companies announce huge buybacks and say "enough is enough", but no-one is doing that. Or, if they are banks, they say, "we have enough capital to pay a nice dividend". No-one is doing that.

We do not have the tinder. We do not have the leaders. We don't have any one entity, any group of stocks, any big-money guys who have the confidence to step up.

We have the opposite.

Here is what I imagine is going on at the big mutual funds: "We just got another $10 million in redemptions in the last hour, sell, sell, sell."

We don't know how to rally. No-one's got ammo. Not at these levels. "
