"Too many bulls, too many scandals; too much optimism, too little momentum; too much stupidity, not enough intelligence. That's where we are right now. If you were to look at the market as an instrument panel for an airplane, you wouldn't want to take off right now. Not enough is right. When we had 39 bull it was good; when we had 28 bull it was perfect, the maximum moment to take off.


Same as before Cisco. Before Cisco we thought some things were getting better: wireless, for example. And maybe seasonality when it comes to computer ordering. But Cisco doused that. It hasn't much play in wireless and it has seen no seasonality.


And then there are the scandals. Given that Tenet Healthcare was perhaps the biggest leader of the 2002 drive, to see it self-immolate is incredible. False idol!

And the Webster scandal -- what gives with that guy? You would think he wouldn't want to Willie Mays the end of his career like this. On top of the previous accounting gaffes, this gives us less confidence, too. Just when we needed more.

All of these issues obscure two terrific fundamental changes that happened for the market: the end of gridlock and the incredible infusion of cash that the Fed has basically mandated.

In the short term the over-optimism gets us in the wrong frame of mind. In the long term things have gotten slightly better, which is why I think you buy, not sell, the decline -- after you see the bears increase and the negativity build "
