Yahoo is expected to roll out new search technology later this year that it hopes will improve its profit in the search market, yet its forecast disappointed investors.
Yahoo said it expects to generate between $1.1 billion and $1.2 billion in sales during the third quarter, compared to analysts' expectations of $1.2 billion. The company said it expects to earn between $445 million and $505 million in operating income, before certain items, which could fall below some analysts' expectations for $491 million.
For the full year, Yahoo expects to earn between $1.92 billion and $2.06 billion in operating income and sales of $4.6 billion to $4.85 billion. Analysts were expecting full-year sales of $4.78 billion.

Loughridge didn't give an precise forecast for the rest of its fiscal year, but said IBM was confident with analysts's expectations. Wall Street analysts currently expect IBM to earn $1.35 a share on $22.14 billion in revenue for the third quarter.
