BULLET: UK Data: Energy Bills Boost CPI To Highest Y/Y Rate..
UK Data: Energy Bills Boost CPI To Highest Y/Y Rate Since Oct
--UK May CPI +0.5% M/M, +2.2% Y/Y
--UK MNI May Median CPI Forecasts +0.4 M/M, +2.1% Y/Y
--May RPIX +0.7% m/m; +2.9% y/y -- Y/Y Rate Highest Since Aug 03
--May RPI +0.6% m/m; +3.0% y/y -- Y/Y Rate Highest Since Apr 05
------------------------------------------------------------------------
CPI rose to its highest level since last October in May and back
above the Bank of England's 2% target rate, mainly due to fuel bill
hikes, the NS said. The biggest upward impact came from gas and
electricity, which helped lift the year-on-year rate to 2.2% from 2.0%
in May -- its highest rate of increase since October 2005. The NS said
that the two combined added 0.15 percent point to the annual rate. The
latest data will add to concerns over inflation pressures, particularly
following the warning issued by Bank of England Governor Mervyn King
last night.
