Chicago-area business gauge rebounds in September to 60.5%
CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- A measure of business activity in and around Chicago rebounded in September.
The National Association of Purchasing Management-Chicago's index stood at 60.5%, up from August's 49.2%.
It beat expectations for some recovery from last month's surprising weakness, to 50.6%.
Readings over 50% indicate a majority of companies sees steady or improving business.
August's contraction broke a 27-month string of readings above 50%.
