LONDON, Aug 8 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch has reinitiated coverage of Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia (NOK1V.HE: Quote, Profile, Research) with a "buy" rating and a 16.2 euro price target, saying investors were overly concerned about Nokia's market share, revenue growth and profitability.

"While some concern is justified, we believe that in the past 18 months, Nokia has engaged in a major realignment in two directions: emerging markets and high-end multimedia phones," Merrill said in a note, dated Friday.

"Nokia made a strategic decision to transform itself from being the No.1 low and mid-end mobile phone company, to one that is a global leader in every segment of the market. We believe Nokia can achieve this goal and rate the shares a 'Buy'."

Nokia shares traded 2.2 percent higher at 13.20 euros, boosted by a weekend media report that Cisco Systems (CSCO.O: Quote, Profile, Research) was considering making a bid for the company.

Cisco Systems estuda possível compra da Nokia

De acordo com o jornal diário 'Business', a fabricante de redes informáticas norte-americana Cisco Systems, está a estudar uma possível compra da empresa líder mundial de telefones móveis, a finlandesa Nokia, com o objectivo de reforçar a sua infra-estrutura 'wireless'.

Segundo o jornal 'Business', o conselheiro delegado da Cisco Systems, John Chambers, estará interessado numa fusão com a empresa finlandesa especializada em tecnologia sem fios (wireless).

Ambas as empresas negaram-se a fazer qualquer tipo de comentário relativamente a esta notícia.

A empresa norte-americana tem uma cotação na bolsa no valor de 99 milhões de euros enquanto que a empresa finlandesa tem uma cotação de 71 milhões de euros.
