Ms Lopacka an ex manager of Biedronka discount store in Northern owned by Portugal's Jeronimo Martins, is suing her former employer by 2,600 hours of unpaid overtime. Having formed the "Association of victims of Jeronimo Martins", which aims to fight the system of abuse of large retailers - she has become the poster child for employees who claim they are poorly paid and overworked.
Even a finding by a local court that mr Lopacka has forged pay slips has not helped Biedronka in the public relations battle. Populist politicians have jumpedon her bandwagon.(...)
Under pressure Biedronka has become more attentive to its employees,investing $3.1 m.usdollar in recent months in new equipment and trainning. Last week it even awarded workers a 20% pay rise.(...)
