- Over 30 new products announced or previewed by JDS Uniphase at OFC/NFOEC
OFC/NFOEC, ANAHEIM, Calif., March 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU and TSX: JDU) today announced its plans for 30 new products at the OFC/NFOEC conference and exhibition for fiberoptic communication held March 6-10 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

JDS Uniphase's planned product line extensions include high-performance components for transmission and amplification applications, highly reliable datacom modules for storage and enterprise systems, components and modules for fiber-to-the-home, wavelength management modules for long haul, metro, and enterprise networks, and integrated optical subsystems for high power amplification and cable television broadband networks.
"The optical communications market is undergoing a significant transformation led by the consolidation of major service providers and by the accelerating demand for reconfigurable networks carrying video, voice and data services," said David Gudmundson, vice president of Corporate Development and Marketing for JDS Uniphase. "System manufacturers, under increasing competitive pressure, are relying upon optical vendors with a broad range of intelligent and vertically integrated products to help them innovate and accelerate the development of their sophisticated multi-service platforms."
FTTH and CATV Applications
For the fiber-to-the-home and cable television markets, JDS Uniphase introduced the Series 4800 uncooled multimode pump module and the single- mode/multi-mode WDM combiner for multi-mode erbium doped amplifiers (EDFAs). JDS Uniphase is previewing an expanded family of EDFA optical subsystems, including the 14-27 dBm EDFA PONA 2000 Series and the 30-35 dBm EDFA PONA 3000 Series products. The PONA Series amplifiers are characterized by low noise figure, gain flatness, low cost per milliwatt of output power, as well as a broad range of performance and alarm monitors.
ROADM
JDS Uniphase's waveguide reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM), already available in a C-band model, is now available in L-band for system developers building dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) networks for telecommunications, CATV/MSO, and enterprise applications. It offers high reliability, switching dynamic channel equalization, optical channel monitoring and supports, providing 32 channels at a lower cost than 8 channels can be provided for by other alternatives.
The waveguide ROADM complements the widely deployed Wavelength Blocker. Together, more than 1,000 units have been shipped and are carrying live. JDS Uniphase is also previewing future members of its wavelength management portfolio, including the multi-port wavelength switch (MWS), which provides colorless add/drop functionality for both 50 and 100 GHz, ideal for both long- haul and metro markets.
TOSAs and ROSAs
The new TOSA (transmission optical sub-assembly) products offer very low- power dissipation, operate over a very wide temperature range, and are compliant with the RoHS (reduction of hazardous substances) standards for lead-free soldering requirements. The new products include the 2.5 Gb/s uncooled Fabry-Perot 1310 nanometer TOSA and the multi-source agreement (MSA) 2.5 Gb/s cooled 1550 nanometer TOSA with a directly modulated laser. In addition, JDS Uniphase is previewing a 10 Gb/s cooled 1550 nanometer TOSA with externally modulated laser (EML).
The ROSA (receiver optical sub-assembly) products offer excellent sensitivity, a reduced size that fits SFP and XFP form factors requirements for both telecom and datacom applications, and a cost that is 50% less than traditional receivers. New ROSAs include the 2.5 Gb/s avalanche photodiode (APD), the 10 Gb/s positive-intrinsic-negative (PIN) and the 10 Gb/s APD.
Storage and Enterprise
JDS Uniphase's 10 Gb/s X2 1310 nm transceiver is the first to be X2 multi- source agreement (MSA) compliant. It supports all speeds for both 10 Gb/s Fibre Channel and Ethernet connectivity, supports an extended set of X2 digital diagnostics monitoring options, and low power operation.
JDS Uniphase, the first to announce 4 Gb/s SFF/SFP transceivers for high- performance storage applications last year, is previewing RoHS-compliant 4 Gb/s models that provide multi-rate services, a wide operating temperature range from -15C to 85C and support for an extended set of digital monitoring diagnostic options. JDS Uniphase will also preview 10 Gb/s X2 850 nm and 10 Gb/s X2 CX4 transceivers.
Telecom transceivers/transponders
For the telecom market, JDS Uniphase will preview the 2.5 Gb/s SFP DWDM, the 10 Gb/s multi-rate SR1 XFP and the 10 Gb/s DWDM full band tunable transponder modules.
JDS Uniphase will be exhibiting its new products and previewing planned products at Booth #1201 at OFC/NFOEC.
