U.S. stocks open higher, boosted by GE

NEW YORK, Jan 21 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks opened higher on Friday, after conglomerate General Electric Co. posted better-than-expected earnings, giving the market some positive news as it tries to bounce back from hitting fresh 2005 lows in the previous session.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 22.76 points, or 0.22 percent, at 10,494.23. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 2.27 points, or 0.19 percent, at 1,177.68. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index was up 5.69 points, or 0.28 percent, at 2,051.57.
