Vamos ver como serão os próximos dias.
Em caso de quebra em baixa, a unica coisa que pode retirar algum interesse a uma entrada curta é a valorização do dolar, face ao euro, que diminuirá o potencial ganho.

Apple iPhone: 8 million and counting

On Saturday, Aug. 30, the daughters of “BillH” bought an iPhone at an AT&T store in Sunnyvale, Calif. The next day, their father, an Apple investor from Minneapolis, reported on The Mac Observer’s Apple Finance Board (AFB) that the so-called IMEI number on the phone was 01 171400 6049xx x (the last three digits X’d out for safety sake).

That number may not mean anything to you or me, but to a group of Apple watchers, it represents a significant milestone — and a sign that iPhone sales may be running significantly ahead of forecasts.

In a joint project of AFB and Investor Village’s AAPL Sanity board, several members have been collecting the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) numbers of every iPhone 3G they can get their hands on and recording them on a big Google speadsheet here.

By tracking the sequence of IMEIs, they can now say, with a fair degree of certainty, that as of Aug. 30, when BillH’s daughters bought that phone, Apple had manufactured at least 5,649,000 iPhone 3Gs. Added to the 2.4 million first-generation iPhones the company reported it had sold in the first six months of 2008, that means that Apple has manufactured more than 8 million iPhones this year.

Moreover, with Apple’s overseas partners reportedly turning out iPhones at the rate of 800,000 units per week, it seems likely that Apple will build — if not sell — its 10 millionth iPhone before the end of September.

Apple (AAPL) has said repeatedly that it hopes to sell 10 million iPhones in calendar 2008. It looks like the company may meet that goal with several months to spare.

Hoje abriu a cair 10% e durante o dia como os rumores não se confirmaram lá foi recuperando, mas mesmo assim fechou a cair 2.5%

Continuo à espera que passe dos 180 em alta para reentrar porque continuo bullish nela. Ou até mesmo se nos próximos dias passar dos 170 sempre em subida.

Industry concerns about Steve Jobs' health have not gone away more than a month after the Apple CEO appeared dramatically thinner at the firm's annual developers' conference, fighting what insiders at the time were calling a "bug."

Apple is due to report earnings today, but many investors and analysts remain as interested in news of the condition of the tech titan - who is a survivor of pancreatic cancer - as they are in the numbers themselves.

"Apple's hedge fund investors are very worried," said a Wall Street source who has spoken with some of the company's stakeholders.

After the conference in June, Apple reps blamed Jobs' weight loss on an unspecified illness that required treatment with antibiotics.

Since then, there's been no update on his health, and company officials now are not commenting on it despite repeated requests.

Multiple sources who have met with - and in some cases even dined with - Jobs in the weeks surrounding the introduction of the iPhone 3G on July 11, said they came away troubled by his thin appearance.

Jobs also doubles as a Disney director, and according to a source inside the Mouse House, he attended the company's last board meeting in late June. Though this source wouldn't comment on Jobs' appearance, another source close to Disney, who spoke with executives after the board meeting, said they were remarking on his weight loss.

Apple sells 1 million iPhones in first 3 days

Apple Inc. said Monday it has sold 1 million iPhones in the three days following the release of the latest model on Friday.

"IPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend," said Steve Jobs, Apple's chief executive, in a statement.

But the launch was plagued by software problems. All the new iPhones had to connect to Apple's servers for activation, which quickly overloaded them. Lines of customers built in stores as employees were unable to get the phones working.

Additionally, new software was released for the old iPhone, which required reactivation of those phones. Many owners of the older phone were left with unusable units.

Reports of activation problems subsided over the weekend, as the servers apparently recovered, and buyers were able to activate their phones through their home computers.

The iPhone 3G was launched simultaneously in 21 countries, including the U.S.

Apple had sold about 6 million units of the first-model iPhone since it launched in the U.S. a year ago. The company has set a goal of selling 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008.

Shares of Apple rose $4.83, or 2.8 percent, to $177.57 in morning trading.

Apple also said users of the iPhone and iPod touch had downloaded more than 10 million applications from its new App Store since it went online on Thursday.

Of the store's 800 applications, a quarter are free. Most of the rest cost less than $10. Programs include news browsers, AOL Instant Messenger software, games and Web radio players.

Este comportamento da AAPL é mesmo estranho... as perspectivas a médio prazo são excelentes.

O iPhone 3G até vai ser o produto Apple com maior margem de lucro de sempre. Segundo analistas da matéria o custo de produção do iPhone é de $100 e o preço de venda para os operadores é de $400.

Uma margem bruta de 75% é excelente, até mesmo para a Apple que costuma ter margens acima da média da indústria.

The new iPhone costs Apple considerably less than the original to make, according to a somewhat speculative analysis by Portelligent, an Austin, Texas-based teardown specialist.

David Carey, Portelligent’s president, told EETimes that based on what his firm knows about the components Apple (AAPL) is using, the bill of materials for the new phone could be as low as $100. The first iPhone, by contrast, came with a BOM of $170.

“Apple’s really taking the gloves off on this one,” Carey told EETimes.

Although the 3G and GPS chipsets in the new model add to its cost, Apple is saving on other components, says Carey. The display that Apple paid an estimated $60 for last year, he says, may cost it half as much this year, thanks to a learning curve and engineering changes. The $100 Apple is charging for the extra memory in the $299 16GB model probably costs the company $20.

Portelligent’s conclusions are only guesses, of course, because the company didn’t actually have an iPhone 3G in hand to tear down.

Still the profit margin on the iPhone 3G is probably quite handsome, even by Apple’s rich standards.

AT&T (T) and the other carriers could be subsidizing the $199 sale price by $200, according to Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster, which means Apple may be charging its partners as much as $399 per phone.

“If these numbers are true,” writes the Yankee Group’s Carl Howe, “the iPhone 3G could end up being the most profitable product Apple makes.”

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Deutsche Telekom AG's (DTEGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) T-Mobile will sell Apple Inc's (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) new iPhone for as little as 1 euro ($1.54) for the 8-gigabyte version together with a 69 euro monthly contract, it said on Monday.

Apple is set to reach far more consumers with the launch of the 3G iPhone in 70 countries than it did with the original version a year ago, partly due to having abandoned its insistence that carriers give it a share of call revenue.

Operators such as T-Mobile now have more scope to subsidize the cost of the phone to buyers in return for more lucrative contracts.

Some carriers, including Telefonica's (TEF.MC: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) O2, have said iPhone users consume 30 times as much data as users of other Internet-enabled phones.

The original iPhones that went on sale a year ago cost hundreds of euros and were sold in conjunction with expensive, exclusive deals with a single carrier in each country. Six million of the handsets were sold.

T-Mobile will sell the 3G iPhone with 8 gigabytes of memory, enough to store about 2,000 songs or 8 feature-length movies, for between 1 and 169.95 euros, depending on the data plan.

The 16-gigabyte version will start at 19.95 euros with an all-inclusive data plan costing 89 euros per month, going up to 249.95 euros for a minimal 29 euros-per-month contract.

A Maçã está a ficar bichosa...

Hoje quebrou em baixa o suporte nos 180 com força e com um volume significativo. E furou a BB inferior. Até no after-hours continua a cair. Isto em dia de subida do mercado...

Razões pode haver muitas.

O mercado já estava à espera do anúncio do iPhone 3G mas parece que não gostou que só venha a estar nas lojas daqui a um mês...

O novo modelo de negócio -- baixa de preço de venda (note-se que só foram anunciados os preços nos States pela ATT, é natural que a ATT esteja a "subsidiar" o handset tal como é hábito noutras marcas, para o resto do mundo ainda não se sabe quais vão ser os preços) e renúncia à partilha de revenue posterior com o operador -- também não está a agradar...

E depois as notícias que o Steve está com uma virose. Em princípio não deveria ser nada de especial, mas a Apple vive do Steve. Alguns analistas dizem que se por qualquer motivo ele deixasse de ser o CEO as acções cairiam 20% no dia a seguir. Quer dizer, o homem "vale" $30 biliões...

Também há a história que quando ele foi diagnosticado com cancro no pâncreas recusou-se a ser operado e queria tratar disso só com métodos naturais e foi a custo que o resto da administração e amigos o convenceram a ser operado...

Seja o que for a mensagem que o mercado transmite é negativa. Tal como tinha dito atrás, o que acontecesse a seguir ao anúncio do iPhone 3G seria determinante. Se quebrasse os 190 em alta era sinal que ia por aí acima; mas que quebrasse os 180 em baixa era sinal que ia por aí abaixo. E foi esta última que aconteceu.

Portanto estou de saída, pelo menos até 11 de Julho quando o iPhone 3G for posto à venda.

Li na CNBC que o Steve Jobs parece estar muito doente e teve uma presenca muito discreta na apresentacao do novo IPhone.
Sendo que ele e a apple se confundem, o mercado parece estar receoso.
A Apple diz que ele esta com um virus e abalado por causa de antibioticos, mas a suspeita e que o cancro do pancreas tenha voltado.

YORK, Pa. (AdAge.com) -- Following the wave of awe and acclaim over the iPhone's distinctive touch-screen, PCs are joining the latest "hands-on" revolution in tech, led by Hewlett-Packard. The question is whether the innovation will catch on as well with consumers.
John Cook, VP-marketing of HP's consumer PC business, said, 'The HP TouchSmart PC is all about reinventing the personal computer experience.'

HP this week unveiled two sleek and consumer-friendly touch-screen desktop computers that are set to hit retail stores in July. HP had last year introduced its first TouchSmart computer, but most agree it was a first-generation market test.

Bigger, better
The newest versions are designer icons with bigger, yet flatter screens, much-improved software and a better overall consumer experience. Another sign of a push for a touch revolution by HP is its own stepped-up hype. John Cook, VP-marketing of HP's consumer PC business, declared in a news release, "We're changing personal computing from just feeds and speeds to an experience influenced by consumer trends and design that anticipates customers' needs. "

He added, "The HP TouchSmart PC is all about reinventing the personal computer experience."

Is that so? So far there has been lots of applause from analysts, but the media and consumers are decidedly more subdued in their response.

"If Apple had said we have a touch-screen iMac, I have a feeling the media would have exploded over it," said Forrester Research analyst J.P. Gownder, who used the original TouchSmart and lauds the vast improvements in the second-generation computer.

How new is this, really?
Some of the skepticism may be from past experience. Not just with HP's original 17-month-old TouchScreen, but also with tablet computers that have touch-like capabilities using a stylus, which have been around for years and haven't exactly sent sales skyrocketing.

The pricing of the units -- $1,299, and $1,499 for one with a TV tuner -- may also still be an adoption barrier, with premium desktops available in the $1,000 or lower range, said analyst Roger Kay of Endpoint Technologies Associates. But while he doesn't think sales of TouchSmart PCs will have a huge revenue impact just yet, he does agree that touch is important to the future of the PC category, as well as the whole tech sector. Nintendo, for example, figured that out already as it continues to blast monthly sales numbers with its one-of-a-kind touch-screen handheld DS.

HP did not reveal its marketing plans for the TouchSmart PCs, but it is expected the promotion will be more aggressive with this generation. Already the company is running a contest on its web home page for consumers to win TouchSmarts, pushed by the tagline "The computer as you've never felt it before," notably written in the same distinctive font as all its other recent PC ads (under "The PC Is Personal Again" umbrella). Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, is HP's agency.

Getting it right
Mr. Gownder said design and user experience will play a large role in adoption, and this version seems to get both right. HP has learned not only from the white-hot popularity of Apple's iPhone with its touch-screen, but also the gangbuster sales and adoption of Nintendo's Wii video-game console, he said.

"If a product can bring people together to work or play in a collaborative way ... it creates an added social value, and that's where it gets interesting," he said. "The Wii radically changed the relationship people have with gaming. Similarly, touch-screen has the ability to do the same in the PC market."

The TouchSmart falls into the emerging all-in-one desktop category -- that is, computers with the hard drive and working mechanisms all located within the screen. That's an important distinction, because while desktop sales continue to fall, all-in-ones are "the one bright spot" in that moribund category, Mr. Kay said.

HP will still need to throw its marketing weight behind the TouchSmart in targeting buyers, expected to be families with above-average income and technology ownership levels, with more than one PC already in the home.

"Touch is not in and of itself going to be the end of the competition," Mr. Gownder said. But "what's cool is the form factor, the attractive experience and the price point, which all set it up for much more success."
