Trina Solar 2Q Profit Leaps Fivefold on European Sales Growth

NEW YORK (AP) -- Chinese solar panel maker Trina Solar Ltd. said Thursday its second-quarter earnings surged more than fivefold, primarily on strength in European markets.
The company earned $7.2 million, or 32 cents per American Depositary Share, compared with $1.1 million, or 19 cents per ADS, in the year-ago period.

Revenue increased 160 percent to $75.3 million, from $28.9 million in the prior-year period.

The company attributed its profit jump to revenue growth concentrated in Germany, Spain, and Italy, as well as the successful commercial launch of its solar cell manufacturing lines.
