NEW YORK, March 18 (Reuters) - Paul Allen's Charter Communications Inc (CHTR.O), said on Wednesday it approved a new executive incentive plan with targets connected to the restructuring of its debt and its subsequent operating performance.
The cable television operator said last month it would restructure its debt under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on or before April 1 in a deal with senior creditors that wipes out common shareholders.
Under its Value Creation Plan, Charter pay Chief Executive Neil Smit up to $8.5 million if the company successfully restructures and if he reaches specified targets during each of the three years following the company's emergence from restructuring.
Other executives included in the new plan include Chief Operating Officer Michael Lovett, who could receive up to $3.29 million; Chief Financial Officer Eloise Schmitz, $1.43 million; and General Counsel Grier Raclin, $1.36 million.
The plan replaces a previous restructuring plan set in January that offered incentives to managers to get the best possible deal for Charter in negotiations with creditors.
Charter reached an agreement with senior creditors to reduce its $21.7 billion debt load by about $8 billion. Various Charter debt and bondholders will receive a mix of new notes, equity and cash as part of the deal.
Allen, a co-founder of Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O), will retain a controlling stake of around 35 percent.

Vamos ver!!!
