yops... isso da opep soube-se de manhã na europa... não foi isso que despoletou a queda nos States.

"What the market giveth, it can taketh away, and that was certainly true of today's market as the major indices squandered a sizable rally for only a modestly higher finish at the close... Indeed, the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 tumbled approximately 220, 41, and 25 points, respectively, from their highs that were reached in the first hour of trading...

The allied forces' successful campaign on Baghdad, which involved the seizure of key government agencies and several of Hussein's presidential palaces, sent the major indices' soaring in the early action, nearly matching the gains out of Europe (London's FTSE +3.2%, France's CAC 40 +3.4%)... Early leadership was impressive and broad-based, with virtually every industry group advancing at least 1%... Strikingly, the rally ran out of momentum as the indices re-tested their March highs... The failure at those levels prompted renewed selling efforts that led to a steady deterioration of the indices into the close...

Factors contributing to the broad-based retreat included disappointment over the failure at the aforementioned highs, evidence in the relatively weak volume totals at the NYSE and Nasdaq that buyers lacked conviction, and continued misgivings about the pace of economic and earnings growth which will be back in focus when the war is over... Indeed, last Friday's disappointing employment report pointed to softening in the labor market and suggested that the pace of economic growth may continue at a sluggish rate... From an industry standpoint, the biotech and large-cap tech stocks spearheaded the market's afternoon pullback, with ample participation from the drug and energy shares..."

Declaraciones del presidente de la OPEP en París

El presidente de la OPEP y ministro del petróleo de Qatar, ha propuesto celebrar una reunión el día 24 de abril en Viena en lugar de esperar hasta la fecha de la próxima reunión de la organización, el 11 de junio, para debatir sobre la caída del precio del petróleo. Según Abdullah Al-Attiyah, su principal preocupación es como controlar el importante descenso del precio del petróleo porque cree que el mercado se enfrenta a una saturación, no a una escasez.
