Xilinx Says 2Q Sales Missed Forecast

For the fiscal second quarter running from July through September, sales fell 1 percent to 2 percent from the immediately preceding period, Xilinx said. The company previously predicted that sales would be flat to up 4 percent from the first quarter.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial are looking for sales of $415.3 million, up about 2 percent from the first quarter and up 3 percent from the year-ago period.

Short-term sales came in below forecasts and sales from companies with manufacturing in the Asia Pacific region fell by double digits, Xilinx said. The company added that sales of its mainstream products also were lower than expected.

The company said it continues to expect sales of 90nm processors to account for 10 percent of revenue.

Xilinx plans to report full second-quarter results on Oct. 20.
